British rock icon Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster are enjoying 17 years of marital bliss. The couple met right after Stewart’s seperation from his ex-wife and took a few years before finalising their marriage.

Rod Stewart is currently married to Penny Lancaster, a prominent British model and TV star.

While Stewart has been married two times before, his marriage to Lancaster marks his longest union. Stewart revealed how they first met years after their marriage. Back in 2015, the singer opened up about meeting Lancaster for the first time in an interview with Loose Women, saying, “When we first met, I got her phone number — I had just broken up. I gave it to the bass player … and he kept it for six months.” Stewart ended up calling Lancaster after a while and took her out for dinner. Since then, the couple has been pretty much inseparable.

Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster share two children together, Alastair and Aiden, born in 2005 and 2011, respectively.

Stewart has eight children in total from his former wives and ex-partners. Lancaster spoke to Mirror in 2015 about dealing with the challenges of family life. “I try and split my time between my eldest child — Rod — and my other two boys,” she said.

“Most men are still needy, especially when you have been in a long relationship before children arrive, and then children do take up a big part of your time. So I make a very conscious effort to dedicate time,” Lancaster continued.

Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster’s love story began in an interesting way. Lancaster’s friend challenged her to get an autograph from Stewart along with his picture from his concert. While finishing her dare, Lancaster gave her number to Stewart (via PEOPLE).

Stewart and the British model dated for several years before tying the knot at the medieval monastery La Cervara in Portofino on June 16, 2007. The couple then went on a dreamy honeymoon at the yacht Lady Ann Magee in the Italian port of Portofino.

Stewart shared what keeps his relationship strong with Lancaster in a 2021 interview with PEOPLE. The singer shared that “intimacy” is the key to any long-lasting relationship. He explained, “I’m not talking about sex, but a kiss and a cuddle and a hold. Penny and I do that every morning.” Stewart continued, “We hug each other—sometimes in bed, sometimes out of bed, all throughout the day. It’s a wonderful relationship. Lucky geezer, aren’t I?”
