Pete Davidson is known for a number of different things, chief among them his many tattoos. However, the comedian and actor recently opened up about why he has decided to remove most of them.
Why is Pete Davidson getting rid of his tattoos?
Speaking to Variety in a recent interview, Davidson opened up about the decision to remove all of his tattoos. According to the actor, the tattoos remind him of a time when he was a “sad person,” and got many of them to cover up a person he didn’t like.
“It was really just because I wasn’t taking care of myself,” said Davidson. “I used to be a drug addict and I was a sad person, and I felt ugly and that I needed to be covered up. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with tattoos, but mine, when I look at them, I remember a sad person that was very unsure.”
The actor joked that, when he looks in the mirror now, he doesn’t want to be reminded of being a drug addict and getting a tattoo of “SpongeBob smoking a joint” on his back. “They should have meaning. Not just that I was high watching ‘Game of Thrones.’”
Davidson says that the tattoos on his arms are “pretty much gone,” and that his hands and neck tattoos are also gone. However, he noted that the full process of removing the tattoos — which requires essentially burning them off — will take him “another 10 years,” and is not fun.
“Well I have to plan it in between work because it’s a six-week healing process each time you get one removed,” Davidson said. “So each tattoo is 10 to 12 sessions. That’s 60 weeks of your life right there on just one tattoo to remove. So, it’s pretty horrible. It’s like putting your arm on a grill and burning off a layer, and then you gotta do maintenance and let it heal properly. And it’s pretty tough. It sucks, I’m not gonna lie.”
