Sydney man charged with murder after stabbing on popular Melbourne night strip

A 35-year-old man from Lidcombe in western Sydney was arrested at Melbourne Airport the day after Ruka Carlson was fatally stabbed.

A Sydney man has been charged with murder after a father of six was stabbed to death on a popular night strip in Melbourne last weekend.

Melbourne man Ruka Carlson, 30, was chased several blocks before being cornered outside Electric Bar in Prahran, where he was allegedly knifed and kicked multiple times about 1.30am on April 20.

Carlson was treated by paramedics for multiple stab wounds, but died on the way to hospital.

Melbourne man Ruka Carlson, 30, was chased several blocks before being cornered outside Electric Nightclub in Prahran where he was knifed and kicked multiple times around 1.30am.

A 35-year-old man from Lidcombe in western Sydney was arrested at Melbourne Airport the next day.

He has since been interviewed by police and was today charged with murder, as well as affray and assault related offences.

The man was remanded in custody to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 4 September.

It is understood the pair were known to each other.

Earlier in the week, 9News understands police were investigating whether Carlson pulled out a gun on his attackers at the Love Machine nightclub before he was chased and stabbed.

It's understood Carlson had links to outlaw motorcycle gangs.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was on Chapel Street at the time of the attack and may have witnessed the incident, or has any footage, to come forward.
